Fortitude Runeword

1x El Rune, 1x Sol Rune, 1x Dol Rune, 1x Lo Rune and a 4-socket Weapon or Armor

Forti is a very powerful and also popular Runeword. It grants a massive increase in defense and damage and is often used for mercenaries. It is more popular to use it in body armor because for example, the Runeword “Spirit” is more useful on weapons. So if you want to know how to get it as fast as possible and if it fits your build, stick with this guide until the end. Many recommend to rather use Fortitude on body armors, because there are better options for weapons, and the high increase in damage also comes if the base is a body armor. It is also recommended to use it on your mercenary, or characters taking a lot of damage while slaying enemies, such as melee characters. So the Barbarian, Druid, and Paladin. With Fortitude equipped, your mercenaries will do massive damage, which will help you a lot.

How do I socket the FORTITUDE RUNEWORD?

Make sure you have all runes available - 1x El Rune, 1x Sol Rune, 1x Dol Rune, 1x Lo Rune - then put them into the sockets of the base item, in the correct order pictured below. Pay extra attention to this. The rune word is 'ElSolDolLo' for a reason, so if you don't socket it in the exact order, the result would not be 'Fortitude' (and instead you would end up with a bunch of runes socketed into the base item).
Take your desired base item, then socket the runes in this exact order:

Farming the Runes

  • El: You can find it in The Countess’s extra rune drop in any difficulty, in The Hellforge on normal an,d in Act 2.
  • Sol rune can also be found in The Countess’s extra rune drop, but this time on nightmare or hell difficulty. But also in The Hellforge on nightmare as quest reward and in Act 4. You can also craft it in the Horadric Cube:  3x ‘Amn’ + chipped Amethyst = ‘Sol’.
  • Dol: Also in The Countess’s extra rune drop on nightmare or hell difficulty. But also in The Hellforge on nightmare as quest reward and in Act 5. You can also craft it with 3x ‘Shael’ + chipped Ruby = ‘Dol’ in the Horadric Cube.
  • The Lo rune can be found in Act 2, or crafted with 2x ‘Ohm’ + normal Diamond = ‘Lo’ in the Horadric Cube.

Which Base?

Elite forms of body armors have a maximum amount of 4 sockets. So to make Fortitude you need exactly 4, which you can make by giving it to Larzuk, after the quest in Act 5. He will give you the maximum amount of sockets on your normal, unsocketed item.

Use Fortitude on Elite Dusk Shroud, Wyrmhide, Archon Plate, or Scarab Dusk.

Strengths

Fortitude has a high defense and good resistance. It has also a nice increase in damage to your character, and on top of that, it is not that expensive.

Weaknesses

Fortitude is a nice all-rounder and does not have big weaknesses. It could have for example more resist all.

How much is FORTITUDE worth?

Runewords can have a huge difference in value. In order to find out the worth of the Fortitude Runeword, we need to add up the value of the single runes, as well as the base item used for socketing. Every roll will require these basic ingredients and will get you the Fortitude Runeword with random stats. This can be defined as the minimum value. The higher the stats of the roll, the higher the final value of the runeword. A "perfect roll" in a superior base tends to be the most rare and hence much more expensive than a random roll.
