Enigma Runeword

1x Jah Rune, 1x Ith Rune, 1x Ber Rune and a 3-socket Armor

The Runeword Enigma is pretty hard to find and will probably take some time, but it’s worth it. It has a huge strength bonus, allows you to teleport and move faster. So if you want to know how to get it as fast as possible and if it fits your build, stick with this guide until the end.

Teleport Like a Pro

This is a very powerful and one of the most popular body armor runewords. It allows any class to teleport, besides granting attributes like +2 to all skills, run 45% faster and gain a bonus to magic find and strength.

Especially the skill “teleport” is extremely useful in this case, because many classes only learn the skill pretty late, or never like the paladin.

And you gain the actual skill, not just some charges. Keep in mind, that teleport does not work while being shapeshifted.

It is recommended for characters like Paladin, who can not learn the skill Teleport. Some even recommend it for the Sorceress, as she could respec and use her valuable skill points on other skills, instead of Teleport.

Also for characters that have minions, like the Necromancer with his skeletons. With Teleport you can reunite easily with your whole force, to bring back stuck companions or even save your life sometimes.

It is NOT recommended to use Enigma for Mercenaries, as they can not use Teleport on their own. There are much better choices out there for your Mercenaries.

How do I socket the ENIGMA RUNEWORD?

Make sure you have all runes available - 1x Jah Rune, 1x Ith Rune, 1x Ber Rune - then put them into the sockets of the base item, in the correct order pictured below. Pay extra attention to this. The rune word is 'JahIthBer' for a reason, so if you don't socket it in the exact order, the result would not be 'Enigma' (and instead you would end up with a bunch of runes socketed into the base item).
Take your desired base item, then socket the runes in this exact order:

Farming the Runes

  • Search for Jah on Act 4 on Hell difficulty, as it only starts dropping there. If you have multiple Ber runes, you can use them to craft a Jah rune with a flawless Sapphire in The Horadric Cube. 2x ‘Ber’ + flawless Sapphire = ‘Jah’
  • The Ith rune is the easiest to find. Search for by killing The Countess or the Hellforge. It can also show up in Act 3 and above.
You can also craft it with 3x ‘Eth’ = ‘Ith’ in the Horadric Cube
  • You can find Ber runes on Act 3 on Hell difficulty. It can be crafted with 2x ‘Sur’ + flawless Amethyst = ‘Ber’ in the Horadric Cube. Note that neither ‘Jah’ nor ‘Ber’ runes can be found from The Countess or Hellforge.

Pick Your Base

But on what Base should you spend your hard-earned Runes? If you want max defense while still wearing light armor, use Archon Plate. For low strength requirements, many recommend the Mage Plate. If you want a good-looking character, Dusk Shroud will be your choice for visual style.

Wyrmhide or Great Hauberk are also good choices. Keep in mind, that you need body armor with exactly 3 Sockets, to create the runeword Enigma.

Strengths

Enigma has one of the highest Magic Find of all the Runewords. It only needs 3 sockets, so you can use many different items as the base. It has a huge strength bonus, and the best of all is the Teleport, as it comes as a skill, not as a charge. Enigma also grants you +2 to all skills.

Weaknesses

Enigma does not have many other great properties besides the powerful skill Teleport and one of the highest Magic Find. It is expensive because 2 of the 3 words are very rare runes. To know how to find these runes, stick to the guide. Teleport does not work while the character is Shapeshifting. Many also complain about the missing resistance bonus, which makes surviving in higher difficulties harder.

How much is ENIGMA worth?

Runewords can have a huge difference in value. In order to find out the worth of the Enigma Runeword, we need to add up the value of the single runes, as well as the base item used for socketing. Every roll will require these basic ingredients and will get you the Enigma Runeword with random stats. This can be defined as the minimum value. The higher the stats of the roll, the higher the final value of the runeword. A "perfect roll" in a superior base tends to be the most rare and hence much more expensive than a random roll.
