Spirit is a very popular runeword. It has amazing stats and low-level requirements. Some say it’s the best starter runeword in the game, as the runes are easy to get and grant your character a faster cast rate, more mana and vitality, and +2 to all skills.
It is recommended for the Paladin because if you want to use a shield as a base, only a Paladin Shield can make Spirit before hell difficulty. And for Sorceress or any other skill-dependent classes, because of the +2 To Skills.
The rune word Spirit is worth farming, as it’s not that hard to get and will make your character even more powerful.
Make sure you have all runes available - 1x Tal Rune, 1x Thul Rune, 1x Ort Rune, 1x Amn Rune - then put them into the sockets of the base item, in the correct order pictured below. Pay extra attention to this. The rune word is 'TalThulOrtAmn' for a reason, so if you don't socket it in the exact order, the result would not be 'Spirit' (and instead you would end up with a bunch of runes socketed into the base item).

The best Base for Spirit before entering the dangerous hell difficulty is the Paladin Shield. Keep in mind, that as the name says only a Paladin can use this Shield.
It is also popular to use a Crystal Sword. A Crystal Sword with ilvl 26-41 can get 4 Sockets from Larzuk, after clearing the quest in Act 5. Note that it has to be un-socketed before giving it to Larzuk.
Another and maybe the best base is the Monarch Shield, as it has a low strength requirement and a maximum of 4 Sockets.

One downside is the missing fire resistance, so you’ll need to get that covered by another item, for example one of our rare rings. Also keep in mind that the max block needs a lot of dexterity, so you’ll have to skill for that.
